Online Medical Encyclopedias

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database that provides online versions of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for research in many subject areas including physical and mental health.  Encyclopedia topics include:

  • Mental Health

  • Human Diseases and Conditions

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a good place to begin research on a medical condition since it offers concise information about a disease, symptoms, diagnosis and treatments.  It's a great place to get the basics before going on to more in depth sources.


 

Paper Books

These books are available at the library.  Some are at the Puyallup Campus (PY) and can easily be brought to Ft. Steilacoom in the courier van.  REF books are for use in the library.

Good for conditions like diabetes that are closely connected to diet.

Mental Health Information for Professionals

The DSM, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, is the preeminent reference book that classifies mental disorders. It is published by the American Psychological Association and is the definitive guide for organizing and understanding mental disorders.
