Data sets

Here are some links to free data sets on the Web!

Statistical Abstract of the United States
Probably one of the most comprehensive and easiest-to-use compliations of US data sets on the web.  Most recent data is from 2012.  Mostly national-level statistics.  Data tables downloadable in Excel format.  Some examples of topics:

  • Population
  • Manufacturing
  • Health
  • Recreation
  • Agriculture
  • Wages & Earnings
  • School enrollment
  • Educational Attainment

American FactFinder
US Population data from the census.  You can narrow to the state level, down to zip code, if you like:

  • Age
  • Income
  • Housing
  • Race
  • Employment
  • Education

Pew Research Cener Datasets
Pew Research is a nonpartisan think tank that does research and analysis on social issues and trends in the US, as well as internationally.  You can download the data from their surveys.

  • Journalism & Media
  • Internet, Science, & Technology
  • Religion & Public Life
  • Hispanic Trends
  • Global Attitudes & Trends
  • Social & Demographic Trends

These three repositories are just the tip of the iceberg.  For many more data set repositories, check out our general Statistics libguide!
