Assignment Overview

This assignment requires you to explore and explain, in 850-1100 words, a concept in your choice of discipline.  Social sciences, the study of society, covers areas of psychology, political science, business, criminology, communications and sociology, among many others. The humanities essentially study the human condition and include areas such as visual and performing arts, history, language, literature, philosophy and religion.   Natural sciences include physical and biological sciences (chemistry, physics, astronomy, geology, etc.)  You are required to use three outside sources, including at least one book and one periodical as the basis of your research.  This guide will give you some tips as well as a few resources to help you complete the assignment.

    The outcomes for library instruction sessions will enable you to:

    • develop a research question and research paper thesis that is appropriate for college-level inquiry;
    • determine appropriate resources for your paper;
    • evaluate sources by determining whether they are academically appropriate and support your thesis; and
    • learn proper citation
