Assignment & Outcomes

For this assignment, you will:

  • select a cultural tradition,such as
    • a formal holiday, like Passover
    • a tradition or practice, like wearing a veil

  • research the tradition to learn:
    • how the tradition is practiced
    • what the practice suggests about the culture itself

  • write a paper that:
    • identifies a thesis that connects the holiday or practice to a worldview
    • explains the tradition
    • analyzes the practice through one of the five questions of orientation and/or relevant worldview components


For the library orientation, you will learn how to:

  • find background information in encyclopedias on a culture
  • find in-depth information on the tradition/practice in books and articles
  • give credit to the sources you've chosen by properly citing them and avoiding plagiarism
